DONALD JUDD – 101 SPRING

donald judd building on spring street is being renovated at the moment, scaffolding are hiding the beautiful cast iron building where the artist applied this theory: each floor should have one purpose: sleeping, eating, working… and nothing else here. nice booklet documenting the place in a more intimate way here! by pp.

Peter Eisenman: Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas

beautiful sculptural piece by architect peter eisenman in memorial of the holocaust in berlin. i wish i had done this. whether you are a norwegian conservative racist, of not, you must be awed by this piece of work. simply epic… as it should be, and in my opinion eisenman’s finest, just wish i could say the same about the many over-rated eisenman buildings.  by dd

ethel granger

ethel granger was the woman with the smallest waist size in history…13 inches diameter… she was only taking her corsets off for shower, and was wearing her necklace as belt. weird. by pp.

murderous lips: dansk læber

kl i’m warning you here not to be inspired by this at your lame job… i was criticized the other day by pp and kl for posting nonsense… now here is some “beautiful” nonsense that i’ve been hanging on to for the right post… “with some sense” that is… but it just ain’t coming. now tell me this isn’t amazing? by danish photographer rasmus mogensen. by dd

Monteverdi automobile: the 1970’s Haute couture car

swiss made monteverdi was the car of kings in the 1970’s… (and some dictators with the needed cash). very few were made, and exported making it an almost unknown manufacturer.

do note in the film, that the original range rover was fully influenced by monteverdi safari 4×4, the first of its kind. i remember the car and its image from my childhood and for a bit, i was beginning to think it was really a figment of my imagination as no one seemed to respond when i would mention the name. i finally came across this which restored my confidence in my memory. hope you enjoy. by dd

surf new york city: riiiight!

met pp at saturday’s surf this morning. nice shack, but i have to say having grown up in santa monica i still find surfing new york a bit of a funny idea. that said, the shack is a fun place to grab a morning coffee and some fags. pp will post some pix of the back porch for your leisurely viewing. by dd

louboutin x lippmann

i’m not exactly sure if this is so bad that it is nice or if it’s just nice but that’s certainly interesting. shoe-god christian louboutin made those images with photographer peter lippmann for the second time now. the first try was around the still lives, this one is obviously referencing the dutch paintings, it’s not as good as guido mocafico’s ones but it’s including a product which is kind of a nice try (a bit hit & miss thought). by pp.

Dirty Faces by JKB Fletcher

british hyper-realist artist jkb fletcher, has done some very minter works which isn’t so cool because she’s so specific,,, and earned her spot after many yeas. but here he paints sensual superhero-themed woman, nice. he says, “my paintings address questions of whether photorealism is anything more than a photograph with oil based paint. using ‘reality’ and sensuality to provoke thoughts and sensations of physicality and beauty.” which sounds a little like art magazine jabber, but the paintings are gorgeous non-the-less.  by kl
