say what you want, but the nineties were the best time ever. and here is why:

because those gals, all together (christy turlington, cindy crawford, claudia shiffer, nadja auermann, stephanie seymour, carla bruni, naomi campbell by avedon for versace and by meisel for vogue, 1994)

because yes, avedon was still alive (claudia shiffer & stan nelson, gianni versace ad 1994)

because everyone had plucked, dark painted eyebrows (yes even you, helena christensen. and you, drew barrymore).

because our teen-idols actually had pretty decent behaviors (ya follow, miley?)

because kirsten dunst and I shared a hairstyle

because this movie changed my life

and to end on a nerdy note, because armies of tamagotchis ruled the world.

so, dd aside, are you now convinced? by lil

paper furniture by studio job

“paper, cardboard and papier-mâché are familiar to all of us. they bring back memories of kindergarten and our first experiences of making things. inspired by classic icons but manufactured like modern day furniture, this furniture collection is an ode to classical style and to the material.” what a great concept- find it at moooi. by m+m

chanel 001 travel kit with lipgloss: approved by the TSA**

for the record this piece is not created by karl but rather, ted noten. the chanel001 is a gun loaded with accoutrements, including chanel lip gloss, an antique hairpin, a 18k gold toothpick, a perfume bottle with an 18k gold mechanism, a 50-gram 24kt gold bar, a USB stick, and a viagra pill. in short, all the stuff a girl wouldn’t leave home without. chanel 001 will be on view at design miami/basel, which kicks off next week, through the ornamentum gallery (hall 5, booth g23), from june 15–19. ** the TSA approved comment was a joke. dont even think about traveling with this. by ar

Remember Now: a short film by Karl Lagerfeld

well, not everyone can be tom ford. from one icon to another tom ford may need to help mr. lagerfeld with his plot. the symbolism, imagery, and lifestyle portrayed in this short for chanel cruise collection 2010/11 is remarkable. the clothes are to die for, as you can expect nothing less from chanel, and we are not doubting karl lagerfeld’s one of a kind vision, which oozes through this short.  however, the acting is, well…. lets just say that trying to add a slash to your resume doesn’t always work out for everyone. by nh

lara stone by “director” karl lagerfeld

poorly acted love encounters in a most unusual place, the fitting rooms at chanel. this wins the prize for the most naive and blatant abuses of love in the shameless service of commerce… director. it’s just one more thing that the great designer karl lagerfeld isn’t. lara stone however is always a welcome sight. by dd

Half off everything!

i guess that mr. lagerfeld was inspired by seeing tom sachs chanel chain saw before he stuck the logo on the chanel bike, surfboard, russian doll, guitar and so on… (see old posts) but did he not get the irony here? by pp’
