Damien Hirst: skateboard decks for supreme new york

xmas is upon us and i was looking for two boards for two of my favorite girls in the world, now this may not be a girls dream but i think its pretty close as far as boards get. hirst and supreme have a long standing relationship and these are bound to be limited in their edition at supreme. try, if you can to get one… they are being collected, one of each by avid fans (fans of hirst more than supreme i would guess), saw a friend with 2 and he said its the only two he “didn’t” have. good luck. a set is already available on ebay for $1,849.99. by dd

macbook air knock off $260: what will be next?

only a few millimeters thicker than the official air

this is rather hilarious! as if the knock off vuitton and hermés bags weren’t enough, our grand financiers and palls in china have made replica macbook airs to flood the market. I mean guys, how are we supposed to pay you back all those trillions of loans if you keep knocking off our stuff?

unlike the bags your valuables inside could be erased or lost in an event of failure of its chinese craftsmanship (itself an oxymoron). while we can at times understand why some savvy people would buy a plastic (gum coated canvas) goyard bag for $100 instead of the official over rated $2000+ a mac book air is actually worth its price for its innovation and craftsmanship if not for the support of a great company. as an added bonus on this clone you will note that a classical chinese intro song has replaced the mac start up sound. funny. definitely not a recommended purchase. by cd

tragically hip: nikon pistol grip

not to shoot down hermes or anything… just a pic from our friends at “it’s very hip”. this image stood out for me, a throw back into the days of john zorn and super 8 but reverse engineered, if you know what I mean. p.s. guns generally suck in our opinion, of course unless they’re made by nikon. by dd

leica + hermes: o-la-la

leica has announced a very special limited edition of its classic 35mm rangefinder system camera: the leica M7 edition hermès. these are off course very limited edition and for most of us we will have to do with just this picture. but just so you know, it comes in silver chrome with a choice of toe calfskin leather finishes, either orange and étoupe obviously supplied by hermès. go ahead – drool! by kv

joey roth Semi-audiophile ceramic speakers: for your ipod or computer

made from porcelain, cork, and baltic birch
standard banana plugs (fine- but the pink cables are questionable. surely you can plug some kimber PBG’s and hotwire it on your own)

tripath amplifier made of stainless steel sheet metal, with a cast iron base and paulownia volume slider, toggle switch. beautiful!!

no word on the quality of sound since this has not hit the market as of yet, but just from its construction and material it will surely sound better than any consumer end product and it obviously looks great. once we audit this we will post another. in the meantime here’s a few specs from the designer/manufacturer joey roth:

“the ceramic speakers are made from porcelain, cork, and baltic birch. each material is minimally finished, left to add its natural beauty to the design. the included amplifier is made from stainless steel sheet metal, with a cast iron base and paulownia volume slider. aside from the electronic components, plastic is completely avoided in the system’s construction. typical speakers are designed to play even the most compressed or poorly recorded track. they gloss over the details that give high-resolution music its depth. the ceramic speakers’ custom-made drivers, porcelain and cork enclosures, and tripath amplifier reveal every nuance. they will show the difference between lossless and mp3 files, and will unlock vinyl’s richness.” available december 2009 priced under $500 by pp+dd

polaroid is back in action

there is something special about the tangible, unpredictable, instant and analog that the fancy digital stuff can not replace. so, we are thrilled about the impossible project’s success! the polaroid licensee – the summit global group- decided this week to re-launch the legendary polaroid one step camera and is therefore commissioning the impossible project to develop and produce a limited edition of polaroid branded instant films some time in 2010. hurra! by kv

H.E. Boucher: live steam-engine boat replica model

talking about shackleton and all… how beautiful is this? i want this as bad as i wanted that kiki de montparnas harness. the 36″ model boat is made by h.e. boucher, inc., madison avenue, new york, circa 1920. the manufacturing label is on the stern and also on the boiler. the boat is constructed out of wood, and has a live steam engine complete with original pressure pump. it also has a screw down rudder to set the course. ships ahoy. by dd

the latest Bosendorfer grand piano

certain things… you just don’t mess with. like the shape of a grand piano. they all bear the same shape for a good reason, because the shape was not meant as design but for its acoustic function. that said audi has “broken the rules”… (wow, so punk to do that?), with it’s design for the bosendorfer piano’s 100 year ear mark with this contraption which appears to simply drape an old shape.

the piano is available for an approximate $140,000 and we can somehow rest assured that bosendorfer will not make anything short of amazing sounding objects. that said we’ll have to wait to hear the real auditions… had he been alive, i would have loved to see glenn gould’s reaction to this one… by dd

Porteur bike by Ateliers d’Embellie

ateliers d’embellie’s portuer bicycle has been released, bringing to us a truly unique masterpiece. the bike’s entirely handmade with vintage NOS parts and high quality leather and mixes leather craft, street fashion and luxury. the color scheme is a classic vintage grey, highlighted with brown leather, chrome and copper touches. i particularly love the flask clip under the seat. by kl
