romantic 1970’s preppy from spurr

the late sixties and early seventies were a golden era for menswear, according to simon spurr who launched spurr only two years ago. inspired by helmut newton, yves saint laurent, alain delon, bowie and hendrix for spurr’s perfectly finished, immaculately fitted tailoring. a casual, weightless luxury… the ideal ensemble for the contemporary libertine aesthete. by kl

Jaco Van Dormael: toto le héros

i saw this film by the belgian director/screenwriter jaco van dormael i think over 10 years ago, and i remember i cried in the theater. maybe it was because i saw it only months after my father passed away. not that it was a sad film, on the contrary it’s very fun, but there was something painfully honest about it. i really loved it then, and i’m so curious to see it again. unfortunately unavailable on netflix, making it a good find and a nice gift. by uh

xavier veilhan – versailles – opening

a little plus from the veilhan show at versailles, as we were at the opening, it took place in the “orangerie” where the trees are stored during winter and one of the most amazing places in the chateau, generally not open to public (plus another sneak in some closed part…). also, the “carrosse” take its full meaning at night as it seems to be a ghost from the past… nice sorry about the poor photos… by pp’

xavier veilhan – versailles

was in paris last week and happened to check this new show in versailles.  after jeff koons, french artist xavier veilhan placed his sculpture in the anachronistic decorum of the chateau. unlike koons, veilhan made a new series of works that are relevant to this particular place. really nice work, really amazing background. a must see if you happen to be around there sometime. check out the website for behind the scenes and more. by pp’

charlotte gainsbourg: willem dafoe: lars von trier: antichrist

lars von trier’s ‘antichrist’ screened this year at the cannes film festival. the ‘antichrist’, written by danish film director lars von trier, is an intense drama about evil, power and love between two people, featuring charlotte gainsbourg and willem dafoe.” tickets available at the 47th NYFF09.

add it to your list. a film about about a couple who retreat to their woodland cabin to heal after the death of their child. way out into the wilderness: apparently not for the meek, in one reviewer’s words: “I thought I had my head down a lavatory, frankly,” said baz bamigboye of britain’s daily mail, the journalist who asked von trier to justify his film. by dd

moonmilk – ryan mcginley

i guess by now everybody knows that ryan mcginley has a new show up in london, as it was announced pretty much everywhere.  i just saw the poster and thought it would be nice to share as it’s my favorite image of the new batch and the graphic aspect seems really relevant. by pp’

The connaught hotel in London

Waris: “when i visit london i want to live like royalty!” that simply seems like the only right thing to do. the connaught in mayfair was originally built in 1897 but was renovated and reopened in 2007 mixing up-to-date technology with restored period pieces. true luxury is living like a king from the 1800’s, but with the comfort and convenience of today. by kv

how beautiful: to all the killer whales…

I’m a fountain of blood, In the shape of a girl,
You’re the bird on the brim, Hypnotised by the Whirl.

Drink me, make me feel real, Wet your beak in the stream,
Game we’re playing is life, Love is a two way dream.

Leave me now, return tonight, Tide will show you the way,
If you forget my name, You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay.

I’m a path of cinders Burning under your feet,
You’re the one who walks me I’m your one way street.

I’m a whisper in water, Secret for you to hear,
You are the one who grows distant, When I beckon you near.

I’m a tree that grows hearts, One for each that you take,
You’re the intruder hand, I’m the branch that you break.
