ARE YOU A NARCISSIST? Makeup yo’ mind boy!

site design and production: ceft and company new york

today NARS cosmetics launched the above website “www.makeupyourmind.com“, where you can go, learn how to do your makeup from the master himself, upload your results and be judged by the entire fashion world. boys of all age and girls of certain demeanor are highly welcome. should you be in the mood you can browse around and “heart” those you like, unfortunately, and not very in-line with the fashion world you can’t kak on those you dislike. the most loved (as in winners) get NARS goodies hand packaged by mister francois nars not to mention the grand winner who will hang out with francois himself backstage at NY fashion week. when asked why NARS created a separate site for the experience, rather than building it directly into facebook, the creative director of ceft and company, ucef hanjani, said: “it’s always important for certain brands to maintain and control their own aesthetic and feeling, and when it comes to web i must say, many have dropped that notion, but obviously not NARS” — this of course is a complaint often expressed by fashion and beauty brands that want to use social media but don’t want their content to sit under a lame-o facebook or youtube swastika. by fr

straggling down new york’s financial district one would expect to find dinosaur bones scattered around from the jurassic financial era, but not a live, hopping, wooly underneath the woolworth buidling!! everyone from waris, to mark borthwick, to karen ellison have graced its thrift-store decor which seems to grow and accumulate with each of my visits there. the wooly has officially become the go-to place for recapturing the intimate parties that gave new york the old reputation it once had. this last saturday fashion designer camilla staerk along with her friends, victor glemaud and hanuk hosted a small but super fun gathering. as expected an eclectic and fun crowd of friends coupled with good music (may kwok & rod) melted the night hours away. all photo credits go to our charming host hanuk. by xy

NIKE BE FREE: BY barnaby roper & tristen bechet

here is another one by the dynamic duo barnaby roper and tristen bechet (services),  for nike. this, to our understanding, was one of the very first times the duo worked together. the film was commissioned by nike and creative directed and produced through the new york agency ceft and company. it made the top 10 list at number 3 on “fashion film network top 10 fashion films” losing the top-spot to non other than our very favorite lady…. gaga’s: “born this way” filmed by nick knight. the photographs associated to the film were taken by french art photographers denis darzacq. the best part is that the entire series were presented as 2 ipad apps allowing interactive features. keeping an eye out for barnaby’s next great thing. by xy

jean-luc godard: film socialisme

very funny how lincoln center chose to place patti smith as the single image defining the godard film in their booklet. not that any one image could do the job, but given patti was almost irrelevant in the film, and perhaps a good lure is rather funny.
for those expecting to see a rock film, be advised….

la porte etroite, renoir, palestine, jj martin, des choses comme ca, napoli, greece, andre gide, patti smith, cruise ship, opera, egypt, wind, balzac, barcelona, hitler, chris marker jab and meow meow… just a few of the things i took away on sept 29th.

115 years of cinema and the man dominating the second half of it, was at it again. godard’s latest film at the new york film festival at lincoln center was a must see. first off let me say how much i love lincoln center, it reminds me of why i love new york so much. just being there i felt vibrant and at ease, its the best of new york in one place. the film started on time, and the audience was a who’s who of film buffs. I ran into wes anderson after the film while getting a coffee in the lobby before going back in for the discussion panel. ironically i had just seen ‘the fantastic mr. fox” and i told him how disappointed i was that jarvis cocker had such a short role in that.

anyhow, back to film socialisme. as i had anticipated i was amazed, bored-to-tears and lost. to clarify, godard remains my hero but that doesn’t change this. after prenome carmen, in my opinion, you must be fluent in french in order to watch a JLG film. even then you best have read up on your literature, art history and philosophy to put that puzzle together. the audio is so dense and layered there is simply no way to do subtitles on the later godards. i was mad at myself for my lack of lingual stamina–if nothing, just to be able to see his films. so yes, it’s not for everyone and chances are it will not be released in cinemas. but as balzac said: you must never forget… who your real daddy is. by dd
