fan di fendi – fendi’s newest fragrance launch: out in september 2010

after fendi pulled all of their existing fragrances off the market, for over a year, there was a vacant spot begging to be filled. “fan di fendi” is the newest launch due in stores this september 2010. the simple yellow packaging and the proportion of the bottle are quite beautiful and summary, however the name is a little uncool for our taste. not only it sounds odd upon first read, its rather a direct derivative of the very successful j’adore dior. one would have expected karl lagerfeld to resist it just for that, but one can see how such a name can make marketing directors and the family filled with excitement. after all who doesn’t want “fans”… or for that matter to be “adored”. the only problem is that naming it that doesn’t necessarily make it so. the jus is signed by perfumer delphine lebeau-krowiakj and the ad campaign is, once again, created by mr baron (yawn!) and features models anja rubik, abbey lee and karmen pedaru suspended in a moment of rock and roll ecstasy.

for the record, our favorite fendi has always been the original classic “fendi by fendi”. the 70’s scent was delicious but unfortunately found it’s way into the low end retailers in the 80’s and the rest was histrory. with a bit of re packaging and updating that scent could find a great spot next to the latest, and we hope fendi will consider bringing that back. by dd

agyness deyn in “Mean To Me”: a film by McDermott & McGough

beautiful stills of agyness deyn in a film by mcdermott & mcgough

“mean to me” is the the first scripted film by mcdermott & mcgough. the film stars actor linus roache and agyness deyn in her acting debut. the 13 min art film was sponsored by guerlain and mikimoto, and the stylized 1930s era pieces were courtesy of zac posen who selected gowns from his archive. it’s quite a beautiful piece, and agyness is not only gorgeous in it, but rather impressive in her delivery and acting. that is not necessarily the case with linus roache, who almost looks the part but not quite. like tom fords film, “mean to me” is more of a visual feast than a “film” but for sure worth the time. a great first film, and impressive for a film that is so fashion based.

the film will be shown at galerie jerome de noirmont in paris from june 2nd through july 3rd. the film will also be screened at the centres pomidou during their film festival series september 24th through 26th 2010. by uh

Remember Now: a short film by Karl Lagerfeld

well, not everyone can be tom ford. from one icon to another tom ford may need to help mr. lagerfeld with his plot. the symbolism, imagery, and lifestyle portrayed in this short for chanel cruise collection 2010/11 is remarkable. the clothes are to die for, as you can expect nothing less from chanel, and we are not doubting karl lagerfeld’s one of a kind vision, which oozes through this short.  however, the acting is, well…. lets just say that trying to add a slash to your resume doesn’t always work out for everyone. by nh

alexander mcqueen eyewear – mauvais gout

flipped through the latest issue of “V” fashion mag and saw the mcqueen eyewear ad above. i don’t know if that was planned, if that is supposed to be funny or ironic or anything but that seems a little “mauvais gout” to me. so, one can say, yeah but the skull was part of the whole idea, still it’s a little off. by pp’
