after fendi pulled all of their existing fragrances off the market, for over a year, there was a vacant spot begging to be filled. “fan di fendi” is the newest launch due in stores this september 2010. the simple yellow packaging and the proportion of the bottle are quite beautiful and summary, however the name is a little uncool for our taste. not only it sounds odd upon first read, its rather a direct derivative of the very successful j’adore dior. one would have expected karl lagerfeld to resist it just for that, but one can see how such a name can make marketing directors and the family filled with excitement. after all who doesn’t want “fans”… or for that matter to be “adored”. the only problem is that naming it that doesn’t necessarily make it so. the jus is signed by perfumer delphine lebeau-krowiakj and the ad campaign is, once again, created by mr baron (yawn!) and features models anja rubik, abbey lee and karmen pedaru suspended in a moment of rock and roll ecstasy.
for the record, our favorite fendi has always been the original classic “fendi by fendi”. the 70’s scent was delicious but unfortunately found it’s way into the low end retailers in the 80’s and the rest was histrory. with a bit of re packaging and updating that scent could find a great spot next to the latest, and we hope fendi will consider bringing that back. by dd
really don’t know where this feeling came from but i’m totally obsessed with the eames dowell chair. i guess it’s a designer kind of obsession as noone around me seams to relate except other designers. whatever, considering that buying an original is not even an option, I wonder which version of the new releases are the bests ones?
herman miller of course is the original manufacturer but they shifted to plastic shell and modernica is the only manufacturer now to built the original fiberglass shell versions. i checked the herman miller version and even if mr eames, as HM states, wanted to use plastic originally but couldn’t at the time, the plastic version still feels a little cheap. so what can one do, since none are “original”? any advice? by pp
i’m sure that being obsessed with anything is the best way to produce singular work whether it is some obscure thing or even more obscure things but in any case, it’s better than being obsessed with what everybody else is.
anyway, in this particular case, photographer rob kulisek seems to be obsessed with sea, surf and everything evolving around it.
first heard of him through a nice niche clothing brand who sold print of his but really felt in love with the pictures when visiting his website. love the raw xerox style of those pictures, like a meeting between ari marcopoulos + julian schnabel… love it! by pp
ok em beckham sucks… as usual, but snoop daaawg is the real daaawg here. oh and daft punks intro was poorly scripted but they sure rocked on the delivery of their lines. by kl
these ads were just so amazing… carolyn murphy as mrs. robinson with pee wee herman as mr. lucky bastard! by dd
ok i generally hate t-shirts but this one rocks, i was practically on the floor when i saw one on the street. by dd
well i guess that renders the rest of us chicks, dead. by kl

moira shearer and james mason avec rachmaninoff’s “rhaposdy on a theme of paganini”… very buti-full indeed. by dd
