over clocked and over dubbed “nosferatu vs. sisters of mercy”
so the gretsch leads us to the animals and the animals to this… before nouvelle vague, there was “doktor avalanche” (the drum machine that followed eldrich from set-up to set-up). sisters of mercy’s singer and songwriter andrew eldritch is yet another of those english midgets who managed to pull off a hell-of-a-sound out of that tiny frame. i was an avid fan of these boys at the time… i know that paul will be proud. by dd
“spend eternity directly above marilyn monroe” or otherwise above the hollywood sex symbol, reads the ad placed on ebay. bidding opened at $500,000 just a one-up on hugh hefner who had bought the spot “next to” monroe in 1992. the seller will be “vacating” the remains of her husband “to make room for a new resident” at LA’s exclusive westwood village cemetery (housing what remains of dean martin, roy orbison, and truman capote), this also happens to be the place where the memorial services for my father were held – of course, with eric satie, playing in the background.
now why would you say, a widow in beverly hills, would move the remains of her ex-husband? well she hoped to make enough money to pay off the $1.6m mortgage on her mansion. “I can’t be more honest than that,” she said. “I want to leave it free and clear for my kids.”ok the last bit seems fair, but her own husband was placed face down in his crypt on top of the actress, in keeping with his dying wish… now hes gonna be one pissed-off corpse!
the seller, elsie poncher, says her husband’s remains will be moved over “one spot” into the crypt intended for her (now probably next to hefners), while she will be cremated when the time comes… I suppose Mr. poncher made the eternal mistake by facing monroe below instead of his wife, who was left, and was to be buried to the left… perhaps he got what he deserved after all. by uh
all that gretsch talk got me thinking… it was brilliant when a midget like eric burdon of the animals, could belt out such deep vocals… pardon the horrible video setting but i hear those were the days, as eric was not exactly as sedated as he appears here. by dd
the uber cool and under-rated georgeharrison with his rickenbacker guitar… lennon was great but after him, it’s george… then ringo… and maybe then the other one.
while on the topic lets not forget the Rickenbacker, ugly yes, but amazing too. if it was not for the love of vintage gretsch, the rickenbacker would surely be a second for me. by dd
velvet underground: a ‘stretched’ lou reed with his gretsch guitar made proudly in brooklyn
john frusciante of red hot chili peppers with his gretsch white falcon guitar
now as much as i love lespaul himself, to set the record straight, are you a U2 fan really? or are you a velvet underground fan?
others who played gretsch (most of them focusing on the legendary white falcon) – a few picked it up just for the image but others for the distinctive sound: chetatkins, eddiecochran, georgeharrison (the beatles), hilton valentine (the animals), brianjones (the rolling stnones), lou reed, sterling morrison (the velvet underground), briansetzer (the stray cats), billy duffy (the cult), mick jones (the clash), john squire (stone roses), stephen stills, neil young, even martin gore (depeche mode-did they play guitar?), petetownshend (the who), chrischeney, malcolm young (AC/DC), john frusciante (red hot chili peppers), davegrohl (foo fighters), jack white to name a few. by dd
“as a child, I was introduced to the sound of Les Paul through my parent’s record collection. it was a spellbinding moment when I first heard how high the moon featuring mary ford. his innovation and recording techniques contributed greatly to the creation of rock music.” mick jones – the clash, guitarist
just some of the avid fans of the gibson les paul are: jimmy page, eric clapton, keith richards, peter green, jeff beck, mick taylor, slash, the edge, joan jett, mick jones, pat metheny, ace frehley, and so on… by pp’
i remember this guy who told me once, that it was too easy to have style when you wear black and that i should be ballsy and use colors. this was in paris, and the guy was ramdanetouhami. he had a store next to where i lived, called RT, it was pretty much of a non-store (the window was hidden behind some wood panel, no sign, etc). he was known as the cool dude, a little bit ahead of everyone (i think he even had something to do with colette…). well now i know, that he is indeed really ahead of me, as he just opened his new place in tangier (morocco) where i’m dreaming to move one day! It’s called “l’africain“ and i’m going to have dinner there, the moment i set foot back there. by pp’
forget eres and la perla, instead cross the line for this dangerous piece by kiki de montparnasse. so hot it should be worn on the outside… now who am I gonna buy this for? best of all, the silk and silver harness that goes for a loving $325.00 is now on sale for $97.50. Ouch! by dd
after all the posts we’ve done previously on the various YSL personals belonging or interiors, i guess this book is the ultimate thing to have to get the ride of our obsession about Yves. the book is not out yet, but you can order it already on amazon. pictures are by the amazing ivan terestchenko, design by the none-the-less amazing peter saville and foreword by mr pierre bergé. i can’t wait. by pp’
