when one of my favorite directors meets one of tomorrow started’s favorite musicians, and on top of that, when they decide to set up this collaboration at one of our favorite brands, you get: wes anderson’s newest movie featuring the music of jarvis cocker recorded at the apc headquarters. sounds good! i can’t wait to see it. by pp’
absinthe spoons at bblessing
for those who love vincent van gogh, but feel a little more now, bblessing have made these super nice absinthe spoons. in the old days, holed spoons were used to hold the sugar while pouring the absinthe in the glass to make it sweeter. it’s an all-time beauty of craftsmanship but these ones are almost good enough to frame! love it! by pp
polaroid is back in action
there is something special about the tangible, unpredictable, instant and analog that the fancy digital stuff can not replace. so, we are thrilled about the impossible project’s success! the polaroid licensee – the summit global group- decided this week to re-launch the legendary polaroid one step camera and is therefore commissioning the impossible project to develop and produce a limited edition of polaroid branded instant films some time in 2010. hurra! by kt

now showing at the white house: if i can’t have love… i’ll take sunshine
among all the nice art that the U.S. president has choosen to hang in the white house, (including: cindy sherman, ed ruscha, kiki smith, lorna simpson or julie mehretu) there is this obvious choice of glenn ligon’s… that felt an obvious choice for j.crew as well. i don’t know why, but it sounds funny to me by pp
2009 piaggio ape calessino
nothing to see with nigo’s “bathing ape” but none the less desirable. here is the new re-release of piaggio classic ape calessino. unfortunately for us dolce vita lovers, this is priced at 9150 euros which is not currently an option regarding the dollar/euro exchange rate!
electric version also available for an even less affordable price.
how about taking a loan to carry all tomorrow started crew at the next mark’s show? by pp
sterling silver / porcelain dial tiffany & co. pocket watch circa 1900
original dial in white porcelain with roman numerals and original spade and poker hands.
barleycorn pattern on outer lid with original bow and crown.
case measures 49mm in sterling silver signed tiffany & Co. on cuvette and inside back cover.
looking at affordability here is a beautiful example of a rare circa 1900 tiffany & company hunter case pocket watch. the manual movement in this watch is not credited to any great maker but the perfect porcelain dial buried in this rusted case is rather awesome. current value at approx $1,500. by dd

piaget movement: the ralph lauren slim classique collection

there are a few ralph lauren items i do like and this is one. launched in 2009 it was perhaps bad timing, but it was years in the making and sometimes you have to forge ahead. this platinum watch with guilloche bezel is one of the series in ralph laurens recent mechanical watch collection with the piaget manufacture movements made for lauren. super thin with dimensions of 20.8mm diameter and the slim 2.10mm height. power reserve approx 40 hours. swiss respected piaget manual wind (lovely). cost for the platinum version shown is 32,000 USD.
this piece which is not considered the highlight of the collection, like the stirrup case, is still my personal favorite. yes, perhaps its over priced for a brand that is not yet considered a serious player in the small world of watch making, 32k can buy you a vintage patek or a beautiful used vacheron… one may even feel guilty to admit spending that much on a RL watch, but price aside, this is a piece i would have loved to add to my collection for its simplicity and beauty. by dd
r.i.p. irving penn
master of image making, irving penn photographed celebrities, indigenous people, workers and cigarette butts, has died at his manhattan home, aged 92. taking subjects out of their element and into his studio, penn isolated their unique characteristics to capture their true natures. he applied the approach whether he was photographing aborigine tribesmen, foods, flowers or san francisco hippies. starting to work for vogue in the 1940’s, he remained active and in demand his entire life. he along with his refined yet honest images will be missed dearly. by kl

heaven – james turrell museum in argentina
fly to buenos aires, then take a 2 hour flight to salta, then drive for 5 hours through rough terrain to get yourself to colomé. check in to the 5star winery resort (which also houses the first james turrell museum, sponsored by long-time turrell collector donald hess)… , and relax while watching the sun set through james turrell’s unseen blue. i think this would be my ultimate escape. geographical and cerebral. does anyone want to join me? by kl
