this blog is a visual notebook of inspirations for a group of bandit bloggers. we post things we see and like. our lives don’t revolve around singular topics and neither does our blog. sorry! nothing is in-or-out of context here. enjoy xx
ateliers d’embellie’s portuer bicycle has been released, bringing to us a truly unique masterpiece. the bike’s entirely handmade with vintage NOS parts and high quality leather and mixes leather craft, street fashion and luxury. the color scheme is a classic vintage grey, highlighted with brown leather, chrome and copper touches. i particularly love the flask clip under the seat. by kl
apparently swedes started making sparkling wine from birch sap in 1785. it wasn’t until recently, whilst indexing a unique archive containing 300 years worth of reports, essays and articles, that environmental engineer peter mosten stumbled across this ancient recipe. curiosity got the better of him, and after a decade of experimentation Morsten finally achieved his labour of love, Sav™ sparkling elixir. Sav™’s content of natural sugars, calcium, phosphor, magnesium, manganese, zinc and iron mean that drinking, in theory, could be a relatively healthy experience.
Sav™ should be served well chilled.
when the inland ice drew back from jämtland 9,000 years ago, the birch was the first tree to reach for the skies again. when humans came to the region, the birch was the first tree they noticed. the white, innocent colour of its bark (though streaked with black, a bit like life itself), led to the birch being dedicated to the goddess frigga (or venus to those who came from more southern parts), and thus symbolised purity and femininity. children’s cradles were made of birch in order to mark a new beginning. the trees were tapped of sap, which was drunk to greet the spring.
i’m very curious, and although Sav is not available in the US, it can be ordered here. by kl
i’ve never been the biggest fan of picasso as for his famous works, but the man was experimental and prolific which is the most inspiring thing a person can be. even in our super-productive today, more doesn’t necessarily mean more to admire. by kl
faust’s first album 1971, surely a collectors item now, was originally printed on clear vinyl in a clear sleeve with a silk screen of an x-ray of a human fist on the sleeve. very cool to have clear vinyl especially for the time. by dd
the german krautrock band faust with werner “zappi” diermaier, hans joachim irmler, arnulf meifer, jean-hervé péron, rudolf sosna and gunter wüsthoff. suddenly the can seems melodic!
luxury used to mean something. it was based on taste and some tangible quality. now unfortunately luxury has come to evolve solely around price for many. think about it, before there was kettle one, belvedere, cirac, even absolute the real 007 drank good old smirnoff vodka by choice. hell, it was russian for one! and two it was vodka. you simply can’t do too much to vodka. bonds taste/aura revolved around how he drank it. but now its amazing how they can sell the same tasteless clear liquid for quadruple the price with no added benefit…
i would say that belvedere deserves a few dollars more just for its lovely bottle, but cirac for example should be half the price of smirnoff just for us putting up with its horrendous bottle design and bad adverts. I recall as a child, my father having smirnoff and johnny walker “red” in his bar as an everyday stock, and my father, mind you, could have had anything. here I am drinking kettle one and “black” label as my bottom of the pile and my assets are 1/10,000 of his. now of course scotch is not vodka and there is a difference. but it just goes to show how our generation simply lives way beyond its means and how marketing has effected us all… even me the undisputed master debunk-er of marketing. by dd
so monsieur pinault has launched yet another museum of his own in venice to house some of his expansive collection. in other words, we trust the palazzo grassi was just not big enough. “punta della dogana” which is perched at the mouth of the grand canal, roughly translates into “monsieur arnault is a cheese muffin”. the new museum has launched its premier exhibition “mapping the studio” with some 300 works from pinault’s personal collection including pieces by (my personal favorite) cy twombly as well as jeff koons and richard prince. by dd
mark my words… one day i will move to california, buy one, fix it up, and lick it’s wooden dash every saturday morning before driving it to nowhere fast on PCH. i just hope i’m not 90 years old by then. why? well… one, ’cause that would suck, but more importantly ’cause you can’t drive this baby if you are past 36 years old or it ‘aint that cool. by dd
the new V&R; juice is almost there! and i don’t know about the smell but the name is super cheesy…eau mega… whatever, i suppose they have to sell a few at some point… that said it’s always fun to see new pieces by V&R; as they are always whimsical and atleast different compared to other brands by kv
just got the trilogy DVDs, the 2nd film “the empire strikes back” (part V that is) is indeed the best. the costume designer for that film rocked the show. here is the original cast including darth vader, chewbacca, both midgets, and more… left to right, harrison ford (han solo), david prowse (darth vader), peter mayhew (chewbacca) and, in foreground, carrie fisher (princess leia), kenny baker (R2-D2) and mark hamill (luke skywalker). by dd
