so cal rock and roll veterans social distortion recently released a music video for the song “machine gun blues” from their new album “hard times and nursery rhymes“. this isn’t just a music video, it is a short film based on a fictional bank robbery in la circa 1934. i think it’s great to see such a core band putting themselves out there by making more than just your ordinary watch-the-band-play music video. it’s a nice production that tells a story. by jr

quote of the day
“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

what does o.k. really mean?
while the origins are disputed, historian, inventor of the red tape and famous architect AR.S, has this explaination to offer: “o.k. is a historic word used in multiple languages and across the world, its quite a phenomena in itself. it was originally used by U.S. airforce after multiple sorties to communicate the outcome of the fighters upon return. O.K. stood for zero (O.) killed (K.) which apparently only accounted for our boys and not the enemies and that, in such a case, was quite a positive outcome.” by dd+as
the descendents: milo goes to college
an ode to singer milo aukerman‘s nerdiness in high school, this album cover is iconic to anyone who thrives on so cal’ melodic hardcore punk rock especially from the early 80’s. the descendents debut album “milo goes to college” was released in 1982 before milo left the band to pursue a phd in biochemistry. this album still ranks on the higher end of punk rock, alternative, and hardcore top album lists today. by jr

christina kruse ruse
not just a pretty face. christina kruse is someone i’m sure you’ll recognize from fashion and advertising over the past many years, but did you know she also makes art? supermodel + artist, what a thing to envy! i recently came across some of her work which you can see here, i hope it’s more than another style of visual stimulation. if anything the results have an atmosphere that speaks of identity and emotional travels. by kl
