alexander mcqueen eyewear – mauvais gout

flipped through the latest issue of “V” fashion mag and saw the mcqueen eyewear ad above. i don’t know if that was planned, if that is supposed to be funny or ironic or anything but that seems a little “mauvais gout” to me. so, one can say, yeah but the skull was part of the whole idea, still it’s a little off. by pp’

Puma: clever little bag by designer Yves behar

i surely would prefer to get my next set of shoes in a box/bag like this rather than the usual trash inducer. clever indeed… but did you really have to print the word “clever” on the bag? i mean your not really that clever if you have to say it now are ya? by dd

Richard Meier: the Rachofsky house-Dallas Texas

“a visit to the rachofsky house unfolds as a kind of procession through a series of zones, taking one from the outdoors to indoors, and then back outdoors again. all of the spaces of the house, works of contemporary art, and vignettes of the surrounding landscape combine to animate the interiors of the house. grass, trees, pond and sky are visible from every angle of the house.

the heart of the house is the second floor living room. secrets of the entire site are revealed through the double-height plane of windows that serve as a permeable membrane between nature and home. whereas the front façade of the house is reserved and opaque, the back façade dissolves and allows constantly changing plays of light and silhouette to amaze people within and outside the house. ultimately, the purpose of the rachofsky house is to provide a place of residence and respite. the potential of the house as a work of architecture is as a catalyst for further contemplation of nature and art, and the science of bringing them together in harmony.” richard meier by dd

“best part of the decade”

when she’s not styling a.p.c campaigns, or flashing her tits to mr zahm or stabbing jarvis’ heart, stylist camille bidault is making lovely pictures. her first story was published on the web version of another mag. although i’m generally tired of those crossing over various carriers, actors singing, models acting and so on, i must admit that there is something really fresh and appealing in miss bidault’s photographs. hopefully there will be more to come! by pp’

screamin jay hawkins: what a busy man!

on the wiki page for singer screamin jay hawkins, under his obituary one can read :

“he left behind many children by many women; an estimated 55 at the time of his death, and upon investigation, that number “soon became perhaps 75 offspring”.”

busy indeed! let’s remember him not for over populating this earth but rather for his amazing performance of the coolest version of “i put a spell on you” 😉 by pp’

brian eno’s oblique strategies cards

was listening to a re-aired jim jarmusch’s interview on french radio and remembered that he was talking about this oddity that is brian eno’s “oblique strategies” deck of cards. that sounded pretty fun on the radio but the truth is that it’s far beyond that, that is pure genius!

“the deck itself had its origins in the discovery by brian eno that both he and his friend peter schmidt tended to keep a set of basic working principles which guided them through the kinds of moments of pressure – either working through a heavy painting session or watching the clock tick while you’re running up a big buck studio bill. both schmidt and eno realized that the pressures of time tended to steer them away from the ways of thinking they found most productive when the pressure was off. the strategies were, then, a way to remind themselves of those habits of thinking – to jog the mind.”

let’s imagine a deck of cards that is giving you advise on a daily basis. in the interview, writer jean jacques schulh was telling jarmusch’s fortune. the instruction was “do something boring” great piece of advice! i ordered a set, next posts will be defined by the cards… by pp’

jack kerouac: the original scroll

read somewhere that kerouac’s original scroll of “on the road” had been released and re-published recently. on the cover it says “rougher, wilder and racier than the 57′ version” which is funny and a bit over the top but anyway, the cover is gorgeous, blind embossed and so on. i got it, read it in english for the first time but now, i need the scroll itself! so if any publisher is reading this post and wants to make millions i suggest that he pull the strings that need to be pulled in order to propose it for the next black friday… by pp’

R.I.P. tobias wong: dies at the age of 35

artist/designer tobias wongdeadly rose: made of bolistic material was to save a loved one
it was a sad day today. not only because the weather was gloomy and i had just gotten back from a nice time away, but because of the discovery of three great people’s deaths. artist tobias wong  artist louise bourgeois, and that bastard actor dennis hopper. what a mess. i won’t talk about the activists deaths… that’s a whole ‘nother blog all together but this is criminal. at 35 tobias had so much left to do. although i never got to meet him, i was impressed by his humor and wit when kl first showed me the rose he had designed. his work was not only smart but never took itself seriously and that’s very difficult to do. i sometimes think why do great people die when there are so many terrible ones just cuing for hell, i can supply a list. in any case, i was thinking of him all day and i guess that’s all you can ask for when you go, for some to remember you for all the good that you’ve done, what ever medium it may have been, humanity, art, or just plain old kindness. we’ll miss ya man. by uh

R.I.P : dennis hopper – if

i remember an amazing interview of dennis hopper on some french radio 2 years ago, he was talking about james dean, henry hattaway, drugs, love and ended the program reciting “if” by rudyard kipling. that was very powerful, and i know he did it on several occasions.  here is the one i found on youtube, hope you’ll enjoy it. farewell sir by pp’

13 Most Beautiful… Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

i love to watch the clips of screen tests andy shot between 1964 and 1966 in his silvery factory. people are fascinating, especially when they’re trying to do nothing.

13 most beautiful…songs for andy warhol’s screen tests features 13 of warhol’s classic silent film portraits. subjects include nico, lou reed, edie sedgwick, dennis hopper, etc. and are presented with newly commissioned soundtracks performed by dean wareham and britta phillips who i don’t know of, but sound yummy. by kl

Look what kevin’s upto: mohawk general store opens in echo park CA

kevin carney, the generic man, at his new mohawk general store
i still have kevin’s old stuff from way back… from the generic costume days in NY and i just cant stop using em. we run into kevin here and there and he has constantly kept up a good show, from his footwear designs to little stories that pop-up on his shirts and jackets. his latest move, mohawk general store, in echo park CA, has three-quarters of the it’s goods made locally, and many of the products are recycled, including his label, generic man boots that are made from recycled rain coats $390. by cc
