“wet”live
this is a song about wetting your pants. but in france that is very romantic supposedly. crazy french guys doing some crazy shit. bumcello… there is much interesting stuff coming out of france, exported by pp. worth a listen… and here is some background on the band:
“the genre-blurring french downtempo electronica duo bumcello is composed of two highly acclaimed musicians, cyril atef and vincent ségal, who bring an incredibly rich, multicultural, and cosmopolitan background to their music. the breakdown of where they are from and their multicultural heritages highlights how their global backgrounds shape their unique sound: cyril atef (drums) has an extraordinarily diverse, multinational heritage and has lived across multiple continents: he was born in berlin, germany (1968), but spent a significant portion of his youth growing up in los angeles, USA, before eventually moving to paris, france in 1990. he is of french-iranian descent, born to a french mother and an iranian father. musically, his background spans the globe—he studied at the berklee college of music in Boston, played in california punk bands in his youth, and has extensively collaborated with North African (Raï, Gnawa) and Afro-Caribbean musicians.
vincent ségal (bass cello) represents a highly cosmopolitan approach to traditional western music, he was born in reims, france (1967) and was raised in paris. while ethnically french, ségal is renowned for being culturally and musically cosmopolitan. he grew up in the culturally diverse pigalle district of paris, which exposed him heavily to immigrant communities and african music traditions from an early age. he later studied at the banff centre for the arts in canada and traveled through the United States, where he immersed himself in hip-hop, dub reggae, and industrial music. Ségal heavily rejects borders in music, mastering everything from classical bach to Indian classical, jazz, rock, and malian folk music (notably recording praised collaborative albums with malian kora master ballaké sissoko).
this intersection of european, middle eastern, american, and african cultures directly defines bumcello’s signature “passport stamp for your ears” sound. they explicitly embrace this “cosmopolitan energy,” blending classical cello plucking with hip-hop beats, electronic house, dub reggae, trance, and global grooves into completely unclassifiable, improvised jams”. by pp+uh
