agyness deyn in “Mean To Me”: a film by McDermott & McGough

beautiful stills of agyness deyn in a film by mcdermott & mcgough

“mean to me” is the the first scripted film by mcdermott & mcgough. the film stars actor linus roache and agyness deyn in her acting debut. the 13 min art film was sponsored by guerlain and mikimoto, and the stylized 1930s era pieces were courtesy of zac posen who selected gowns from his archive. it’s quite a beautiful piece, and agyness is not only gorgeous in it, but rather impressive in her delivery and acting. that is not necessarily the case with linus roache, who almost looks the part but not quite. like tom fords film, “mean to me” is more of a visual feast than a “film” but for sure worth the time. a great first film, and impressive for a film that is so fashion based.

the film will be shown at galerie jerome de noirmont in paris from june 2nd through july 3rd. the film will also be screened at the centres pomidou during their film festival series september 24th through 26th 2010. by uh

Remember Now: a short film by Karl Lagerfeld

well, not everyone can be tom ford. from one icon to another tom ford may need to help mr. lagerfeld with his plot. the symbolism, imagery, and lifestyle portrayed in this short for chanel cruise collection 2010/11 is remarkable. the clothes are to die for, as you can expect nothing less from chanel, and we are not doubting karl lagerfeld’s one of a kind vision, which oozes through this short.  however, the acting is, well…. lets just say that trying to add a slash to your resume doesn’t always work out for everyone. by nh

R.I.P : dennis hopper – if

i remember an amazing interview of dennis hopper on some french radio 2 years ago, he was talking about james dean, henry hattaway, drugs, love and ended the program reciting “if” by rudyard kipling. that was very powerful, and i know he did it on several occasions.  here is the one i found on youtube, hope you’ll enjoy it. farewell sir by pp

13 Most Beautiful… Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

i love to watch the clips of screen tests andy shot between 1964 and 1966 in his silvery factory. people are fascinating, especially when they’re trying to do nothing.

13 most beautiful…songs for andy warhol’s screen tests features 13 of warhol’s classic silent film portraits. subjects include nico, lou reed, edie sedgwick, dennis hopper, etc. and are presented with newly commissioned soundtracks performed by dean wareham and britta phillips who i don’t know of, but sound yummy. by kl

socialisme : by Jean-Luc Godard (2010)

why has no one been talking about jean-luc godard‘s new film socialisme? it screened at the recent cannes film festival and described as his most recent ‘avant meditation’. looking forward to something more dimensional to cross the pond into a theater near me. i’ll have more to share once i’ve seen it myself, but from what i’ve read here (and with godard being described as stan brakhage crossed with noam chomsky), there are some explorations in the film that will be interesting to be brought into the conversation. by kl

you can’t miss “tetro”

sometimes there are things i don’t understand. for instance, i really don’t get why daddy coppola’s tetro went so unnoticed and so untold about. here is the story: i was in paris a couple of months ago and it was getting released there. critics were totally crazy over the movie saying it’s such a great movie, coppola was interviewed on every radio, tv and so on to talk about it. when i get back here, i checked to see when the us release was to see it again. what i saw was a bit strange, the movie was released eight months before, and it had no press at all, nothing! it was featured in two theaters for two days… what’s going on? that’s a really beautiful movie, gallo is very good, black and white is perfect…you can’t miss that, you know what to do this weekend. by pp’

TWO-LANE BLACKTOP: the criterion collection

two-lane blacktop is a fantastic film from the archives, now available from the criterion collection.  i picked up 3 copies, just to be safe. the issue includes a beautifully printed script book worth the full price alone, plus a whole dvd of additional content like interviews with monte hellman and james taylor. it’s a must see film if you haven’t seen it. by dd

why don’t you love me – beyoncé

this is the only beyoncé video i’m allowed to post on tomorrow started. love the makeup, love the hair, love the moves, love matching fingernails to turquoise rotary phone. i much prefer this girl to the one attempting to win in the try-hard edgy fashion competition. sometimes you have to allow yourself some mass pop indulgence, especially when they’re using some of your favorite references. by kl

i don’t know why

i don’t know why, but every spring i have a joni mitchell moment. i think it’s because it’s a time to remember that the bleak winter eventually ends, and the world won’t always be exhausting and brutal—it can be soft and sweet, and fun and romantic. by kl
