searching for sugar man: an unbelievable story
searching for sugar man
this is a documentary about an artist called rodriguez. rodriguez released two albums that totally flopped in america, but somehow they became a huge success in south africa, without rodriguez ever knowing it. in south africa he became bigger than elvis, he became an icon. everyone thought that rodriguez had commited suicide, there were many stories of how he had done it. so two journalists decided to find out how he really died. but they weren’t expecting to find him alive and to help him unite him with his south african fans so that he could finally have a real concert. for 30 years rodriguez was living in detroit without knowing that he was a superstar on the other side of the world. it’s just a must see this documentary, it’s called searching for sugar man. by wn
DJ compilations: easy listening… well sort of!

ucef hanjani of the collective selectors ceft colaition

our friends at “here we go now” have compiled a series of music compilations from various DJs in NY and beyond, including the legendary jamaican record producer clive chin of new yorks miss lilly’s. if you happen to have the patience to wait for the damn stream to load (pending your connection: mine took 2 minutes and 19″ seconds to be exact) this eclectic mix of reggae funk and electronica by the ceft coalition spanning over an hour of music is worth a listen (click here to load stream). my other fav is of course anything from clive as well as the mix by princess christiens socceaneanana. happy listening. photos courtesy of gerald forster. by pr

one of my favorite tracks went something like this… “well i wake up in the morning, look at my clock, it’s way past noon time, now i’m late for work. tell me, tell me, what have i done wrong? ain’t nothing go right with me must be I’ve been smoking too long.
well I go to find me some breakfast but I ain’t got no food take me a shower, but the water don’t feel no good. i’ve got opium in my chimney no other life to choose. nightmare made of hash dreams got the devil in my shoes tell me…
well when I’m smoking, put my worries on a shelf, don’t think about nothin’ try not to see myself. tell me, tell me, what have i done wrong? ain’t nothing go right with me must be I’ve been smoking too long….
well in this blues I’m singin’ there’s a lesson to be learned don’t go around smokin’ unless you want to get burned.”
*disclaimer: smoking is pretty damn lame… although i do it myself by dd
JAPAN ROCK ARCHIVE – DAVID BOWIE’S BEARD

ooa la la laaaaa – pre andre equestrian funk
that title doesn’t really summarize the purpose of this post, just a detail. i sort of wish wyclef made it into office. and i wish lauryn didn’t go so bonkers and kept up that subtle sexy strong woman thing she did so well. by kl
