rob & nick carter – postcards from vegas

i think the following images belong to the category of the ” it’s so bad that it’s nice” or something like that. funny how men couple can achieve this level of suspicious taste, from gilbert & george to pierre & giles. anyway, this exhibition was shown in london at the “fine art society”, posh place indeed, where the contrast between the walls and what they hold might have been even weirder than the piece themselves… there is no absolute good taste, right?

“to create, this new body of work entitled ‘postcards from vegas’ the artists used one of only two remaining cibachrome machines in the world to enlarge the postcards, which are drawn from a collection the carter’s each collected as children in the 1960s and 1970s, to up to 150 times the original size. in addition, the couple have added replicated and reduced-to-scale vintage neon signs spotted on trips to las vegas.

Lina Scheynius: beautiful photographs

saw lina scheynius’ book today and it reminded me of how much i liked it the first time i saw it. her work, unlike jurgen or terry is soft, and kind. there is a feminine touch and void of the “jerky boy gets a hold of point and shoot” attitude so inherent in so many of the others. she still shoots with a 35mm camera and at 28 isn’t about to let that go. its a hard sell in this world of instant gratification with digital but there is something to gain at the end… if you can see that. by dd

super cars collecting dust: in the most unlikley of places

the ex shah of iran had a knack for exclusive sports cars (as one can imagine) and had a collection of rarities that were left behind when he fled the revolution. finally someone has managed to photograph the stable of cars collecting dust under the islamic republic. surely one day they will be only specimens with such limited miles on the odometers. above are a few pictures from the spanish mag that managed to capture it all. by xy

david downton

it looks like rene gruau, but it’s not rene gruau, it’s david downton.  at first i couldn’t really figure out if the guy was still around or if he was 80 years ago, but now i know.  the dude is not so old, just some really talented guy with a kind of classical vision. by pp.

Arquivo Brasilia

lina kim and michael wesely went through the 10,000 images documenting the construction of brasilia, this weird architectural project that came out of nowhere in only a 4 years time. from an era that hold dreamers and believers to us, everything is compiled in a book, 1,400 photos, step by step. some kind of must have here. by pp.

liz taylor – travel in style

fed up with seeing images of liz taylor at age 18 everywhere. the only relevant post around once again comes from mister tereschenko who treat us with some pics of the lady’s boat, kalizma. on his post you will learn some interesting fact about this more than nice boat. such as miss taylor was travelling to cannes on her boat for a reason that has nothing to see with some sort of aero-phobia but pure dog love! she didn’t want her dogs to go on quaranteen. i feel like i wannabe a dog. by pp.

hand carved limestone elephant

hey pp i got your elephant right here! this is a beautiful piece of work, hand carved out of lime stone, its so detailed its sick. inside the solid piece of stone there is baby elephant and inside that baby elephant another elephant. this was all done using a single piece of stone. it was done in india and purchased for $600 which if you divide the days it took to make this by the amount its absurdly low. i mean these days you buy a digital camera for that price and you simply throw it away the next year! any how love it, and look at it daily in admiration of the work and try and remind myself just how much we suck! by dd

don’t go changin: model ANDREJ PEJIC

we couldnt include this image in the other post as the colors didn’t match but as you may know shes a he and doing it quite well.

so far so good… but we hope andrej doesn’t go through any plastic surgery and kitsch-ify this whole thing. so far its dignified. it goes like this, a pretty young aussie boy, dressed up to look like a girl, receives money and fame. nothing wrong there. work it all the way, but don’t do the sex change thang, you’ve been smart and having it all. just don’t pander to them, not even victoria’s secret, be who you are and if they take you then go as you are. weve been trying to sell make up to boys for years, the day will come. by dd
