Damien Hirst: skateboard decks for supreme new york

xmas is upon us and i was looking for two boards for two of my favorite girls in the world, now this may not be a girls dream but i think its pretty close as far as boards get. hirst and supreme have a long standing relationship and these are bound to be limited in their edition at supreme. try, if you can to get one… they are being collected, one of each by avid fans (fans of hirst more than supreme i would guess), saw a friend with 2 and he said its the only two he “didn’t” have. good luck. a set is already available on ebay for $1,849.99. by dd

marmot: stockholm down jacket

“i’m sooo in stockholm dude!”

just the name brings me back memories of marvin…. but aside from that a good thing to have if you happen to be in the sierra, alps or new york city and want to keep warm. i just happen to be in one of em and enjoying the new purchase. so far so good. the puff jacket is not much for looks but the tear resistant down-proof fabric and durable vislon zippers is a serious contender in durability and the cold. from this utilitarian brand, known for its down fills, comes this 650 fill goose down (the higher the fill the warmer but also the less puffier – just learned that). the jacket also sports the added zip-off hood with super soft micro fleece internal cuffs. the only bummers are perhaps the zippers that are a bit too loud for my fussy fashion polar bear in my igloo. available for $225 at marmot online store. by kt

macbook air knock off $260: what will be next?

only a few millimeters thicker than the official air

this is rather hilarious! as if the knock off vuitton and hermés bags weren’t enough, our grand financiers and palls in china have made replica macbook airs to flood the market. I mean guys, how are we supposed to pay you back all those trillions of loans if you keep knocking off our stuff?

unlike the bags your valuables inside could be erased or lost in an event of failure of its chinese craftsmanship (itself an oxymoron). while we can at times understand why some savvy people would buy a plastic (gum coated canvas) goyard bag for $100 instead of the official over rated $2000+ a mac book air is actually worth its price for its innovation and craftsmanship if not for the support of a great company. as an added bonus on this clone you will note that a classical chinese intro song has replaced the mac start up sound. funny. definitely not a recommended purchase. by cd

Where are you andre?

after his truly inspired launch of benjamin bixby that premiered at barney’s new york in one of the worse times in retail economy, the producer, actor, designer took an unexpected vacation. on our end, we can’t wait to see him back. of all the newly launched lines by a slew of loser actors, singers and famous-for-no-reasons, andre was breath of fresh air. some one with a real sense of personal style and principle. we hope to see him back in full force. lots of love to the new BB. by xy

forget global warming: earth’s north and south pole are shifting

“the magnetic field inside the earth is turning independently at a rate different from that of the earth. during a potential reversal, the magnetic field does not vanish. they just gets more complicated. a south magnetic pole might emerge over africa, for instance, or a north pole over tahiti.” you can throw away your compasses now.

this is not the sci-fi film you watched last weekend, its NASA and BBC reporting: “the earth’s magnetic field is changing: compass needles in Africa are drifting about 1 degree per decade. this shift has accelerated in the recent years and at this rate there could be a complete reversal of earths poles.” what would that mean for it inhabitants? the poles continued to shift during the 20th century, at an average speed of 10 km per year, in recent years accelerating to 40 km per year. at this rate the north pole will exit north america and reach siberia in just a few decades.

in case your plan B was to escape using your miles on virgin galactic here’s some bad weather reports from mars: “data from NASA’s mars global surveyor and odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide “ice caps” near mars’ south pole are diminishing for three summers in a row.”

the magnetic fields on earth have completely reversed in the past. meaning the north and the south poles swap places. such reversals are recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks. they come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago. sounds like its about time?

some background: “james ross located the pole for the first time in 1831 after an exhausting arctic journey during which his ship got stuck in the ice for four years. no one returned until the next century. In 1904, 73 years later, roald amundsen found the pole again and discovered that it had moved–at least 50 km since the days of Ross. 50 km in 70+ years.” and now 40k in just 1 year. yikes!!! lady gaga seems like a real important topic suddenly!!! excerpts from www.nasa.gov. also see BBC: is the earth preparing to flip? by dd

geez… they just couldn’t let the little girl be, they had to take her over and consume her entire being with some gravy. the covers of brit pop wasn’t enough. the little girl that we loved who once “sat inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats. Scattered black petals on Rei Kawakubo’s doorsteps and serenaded her in rap. who had no where near 4 million readers. Rather cynical and cute as a drained rat...” seems to be going out a bit now days… we hope shes still happy and smart enough to keep them at an arms length… never forget darling: being distant will always give you a better view of the pray ; ) by dd

tragically hip: nikon pistol grip

not to shoot down hermes or anything… just a pic from our friends at “it’s very hip”. this image stood out for me, a throw back into the days of john zorn and super 8 but reverse engineered, if you know what I mean. p.s. guns generally suck in our opinion, of course unless they’re made by nikon. by dd
