the dutch deign duo behind viktor and rolf blew our minds again. the spring 2010 collection was a whimsical tulle fest in black and pastels. if only the pocket book was a little fatter… by kt

Aston Martin AMV10 Concept: Sabino Design
here is the possible future look of aston martin… not bad, but there was a goofy thing about the bulky design of the old astons that i just loved. it made them look like a goofy guy that all the girls have a crush and that’s only cool. by pp
Anish kapoor: the Royal Academy of Arts
this exhibition surveys kapoor’s career to date showcasing new and previously unseen works, including early pigment sculptures, mirror-polished stainless-steel sculptures and cement sculptures on display for the first time. the exhibition also includes highlights such as the monumental work svayambh, the title of which comes from a sanskrit word meaning ‘self-generated’. emblematic of kapoor’s interest in works of sculpture that actively participate in their own creation, svayambh moves slowly through the galleries across the entire breadth of burlington house.
in an interview on bbc anish explains how meaning is not completely in the object, but that the viewer brings meaning through that which is familiar. so… what are you thinking about? by kl
seydisfjordur rocks iceland: soundville and sigur ros
well, it’s about time brands thought outside of the usual venues. in this case, sound serves as the centerpiece in the latest release from sony, soundville. it is a short film that documents three days in the life of the icelandic town of seydisfjordur after it’s been transformed into a giant soundsystem. the project brought in a surprising range of collaborators—from seydisfjordur’s townspeople themselves, to sigur ros’ concert team and musician fede cabral.
how did you come up with this particular idea? what inspired you?
i was buying milk while listening to stockhausen on my headphones. i felt everyone should be listening too.
it’s really, really, amazing, and makes me want to be in iceland now. by dd + kt

photographer sam haskins: exhibit at milk gallery

the highlight of my day, that day, was indeed the chance of of meeting sam haskins at his show. the exhibit at milk studio was very good but unfortunately not as great as his work indeed is.
that is of course my personal opinion. the small diptychs created did not do the images justice. sam’s pictures are so amazing and simple they deserve to stand alone and in large, large, large, wall paper size formats. of course space is the key issue in nyc and i’m sure that had something to do with it. the exhibits prints were rather small making you feel like you were going through a printed book (what is the point when you can buy the book?).
that night i met sam and his son and his grandson. extremely kind and graceful. sam unfortunately had suffered a stroke recently and was not in top condition yet he was pleased to see so many young fans at the opening and happy to talk and sign my book. by dd

philips de pury’s latin american art exhibit
below: oscar niemeyers chair and ottoman in bent rosewood as yves would say its “ravishing’
earlier tonight, at the opening of philips de pury’s latin american art exhibit in new york, there where three peices that were desperately begging to come home with me. one was oscar niemeyers chair and ottoman in rosewood (auctioned at: 15-20K), the other was a candida hofer photograph of the library in buenos aires, colegio nacional de buenos aires (auctioned at: 60-80K) and the last darling was a jorge pardo, untitled #6 (auctioned at: 25-35K). as i already have a jorge pardo i had to skip that one, the niemeyer for sure would have required a larger new york apartment and that is not currently an option, the hofer on the other hand (of course the biggest of the three bites) just wouldn’t give up on me…. but what can i say, times are tough for art. be sure to at least check it out. by uh
