i remember this guy who told me once, that it was too easy to have style when you wear black and that i should be ballsy and use colors. this was in paris, and the guy was ramdanetouhami. he had a store next to where i lived, called RT, it was pretty much of a non-store (the window was hidden behind some wood panel, no sign, etc). he was known as the cool dude, a little bit ahead of everyone (i think he even had something to do with colette…). well now i know, that he is indeed really ahead of me, as he just opened his new place in tangier (morocco) where i’m dreaming to move one day! It’s called “l’africain“ and i’m going to have dinner there, the moment i set foot back there. by pp’

favorite authors, one whose stories changed my view of the world we live in— what more can one ask of a work of art?
-album: blue, by jonimitchell, has been sustaining me these last few weeks as our tour has grown long, playing over and over on repeat in my iTunes. what an amazing achievement this record is.
-cities: right now i’m infatuated with all things portland (OR) — hands down the hippest city in USA right now. close seconds: paris, tokyo, marrakech, melbourne. -place: place devosges, paris.
-films: pierrotlefou, godard; late autumn, yasujiroozu; ali: fear eats the soul, rainier wernerfassbinder; don’t look back, D.A. pennebaker; the gleaners, agnesvarda. this list, as with many of these, could go on and on… -restaurant:chezpanisse in berkeley — good vibes and good food. -hotel: of late, from our recent summer tour, W hotel, dallas. not a city one needs to visit, really, but a killer hotel.
-hobby: bicycling. I’ve spent the summer bicycling my way across the country as sonic youth has toured. fantastic rides everywhere: montana rocky mtns, okla
cornfields, portland streets & bridges, st. louismississippi river basin, milwaukee, boise, sanfransisco to the foot of the golden gate—you name
it, every city in the US is improving their cycling system.
-band: pavement, the most rocking and literate band of the 90s.
-prized possession: my just-released fender signature modeljazzmaster guitar (the lee renaldo fender jazzmaster was released on july 1st).

edun, stella mccartney and loomstate are examples of socially conscious brands, part of a movement that I am thrilled to see happening world-wide. during copenhagen fashion week this week, the norwegian label FIN showed off their beautiful designs dominated by flirty dresses with an edge in a range of subtle, delicate colors. there is simply not a more luxurious fabric then a fabric that is made in a cruelty free environment and FIN’s production processes is both environmentally and socially aware. guilt free fashion is the true luxury of the future! by kv
i don’t know where i would place artist sam taylor wood in the master’s sentence, but i’ve always loved figuring out where an artist’s inspiration comes from. i’m sure everyone has had the feeling of being so sure that an artist’s piece reminds one of another artist’s work and think that it might have inspired him/her…
well sam taylor wood’s work is obviously based on reinterpreting references, as in her earlier work, when her work was rather painting-like. she later introduced the the suspended pictures that are based on “le saut” (the jump) from yves klein.
so all that just to tell you that i’m pretty sure the crying men is a smart modernization of bas jan ader‘s finest work “i’m too sad to tell you”. by pp’
we love books! especially sources of inspiration. and it seems a newly released curation of photography books is now available for public viewing thanks to the generous photo-go-to, molly logan. as we know molly’s broad knowledge of the worlds of art and photography, and as we know her to have unique and impeccable taste, we are excited to peruse her personal library, which can be found in soho, or on the web site my best fred. by kl
