Nike Stages private reception at Deitch gallery new york
edward kim and our sweet richard chai

david selig cecilia dean brian malloy

jose parla and jeffrey deitch
this past friday’s opening at the deitch projects was rather involved. it was the follow up to the paris mash-up openning at the galerie emmanuel perrotin that I missed and have been cursing myself ever since. the mixture of sports stars like lance armstrong and fashion gurus like richard chai and the girls from threeasfour made it a fun evening. even mr. andre saraiva poped in for a fag or two.
the work was quite nice but rather oddly curated. i was under the impression that one could get arrested in new york for putting kenny sharf and ed ruscha in one room. but apparently not. aside from that there were some impressive mixture of streeters and heavy hitters. raymond pettibon next to gursky, shepard fairey next to gai guo-qiang… tom sach’s bicycle titled “lances tequila bike for girls” was quite an amusement piece and perhaps my favorite. funny and cool. my second favorite piece was eric whites “foyer”… i couldn’t help but think of john baldessari’s balls!!
it was a good evening which was eventually topped off by sushi, plenty of sake and my favorite… sesame ice cream…
show is on display through november 21. don’t miss it. other works included pieces by: jules de balincourt, KAWS, richard prince, christopher wool, aaron young, futura, and others. all artwork on display, available for purchase, with proceeds directly benefiting the lance armstrong foundation for cancer. by dd

diamond, gold and onyx earrings by house of waris
last wednesday evening we walked passed the sam haskins show and the new yorker magazines guest-list to enter an intimate showing of house of waris‘ ss-2010 collection at phillips de pury auction house. the event was an antithesis to the jane hotel fashion week dance-in. this time the gathering was ubber exlusive and the pieces guarded by more security than guests. the location of course added to the aura of waris and his exclusive collection, each piece handmade and magically blessed. waris’ signature orange-and-gold tent was set up and champagne was conveniently at hand. by uh

you can sense that he had the title ‘baron’ in the subdued confidence of these compositions by Baron George Hoyningen-Huene. i may take on the title myself. by kl

forget recycling: world population growth
it’s a topic no one wants to deal with, but we all have to, eventually. recycling, saving whales, forests, carbon foot print, organic, oil, water, jesus, micheal jackson… nothing will help unless this is addressed in some way. Ooouch! by xy

chez cartier
a beautiful sneak at cartier paris headquarters’s secret room where designers are coming up with new things. thanks to the great mister terestchenko.
“In a little room next to the workshop itself, there is a library full of books and magazines on botanic and wild life to support the inspiration of the designers.
Some of them are very common publications but handy enough to study the general anatomy of a panther, a giraffe, a turtle etc…
There are also some rare books. First, the project is sculpted in a piece of wax in different variations, sometimes painted to imitate the gems.
After a long process and final approval, the model in wax, turned into precious stones, is simply tucked away in a chocolate box, a Godiva chocolat box to be precise.

Kill your idols…. today: music by the services with tristan bechet
no wave music documentary
the documentary was not as amazing as the one we had posted “punk attitude”, but still worth a watch if you are a fan of the genre. by dd
my twisted meditation for the day : by hunter s. thompson
Hunter S. Thompson fax excerpts:
“Dear Holly,
Okay, you lazy bitch, I’m getting tired of this waterhead fuckaround that you’re doing with The Rum Diary.
We are not even spinning our wheels aggresivly. It’s like the whole Project got turned over to Zombies who live in cardboard boxes under the Hollywood Freeway… I seem to be the only person who’s doing anything about getting this movie Made. I have rounded up Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Brad Pitt, Nick Nolte & a fine screenwriter from England, named Michael Thomas, who is a very smart boy & has so far been a pleasure to talk to & conspire with…
So there’s yr. fucking Script & all you have to do now is act like a Professional & Pay him. What the hell do you think Making a Movie is all about? Nobody needs to hear any more of that Gibberish about yr. New Mercedes & yr. Ski Trips & how Hopelessly Broke the Shooting Gallery is…. If you’re that fucking Poor you should get out of the Movie Business. It is no place for Amateurs & Dilletants who don’t want to do anything but “take lunch” & Waste serious people’s Time.” …
reading this makes me want to be more like hunter… raw, true, unforgiving. only hunter can pull this off. can you imagine someone receiving a letter like this, today? you can read the full transcript here. by kl
punk attitude: must see film
find out why i always hated nirvana, why new york gets all the credit, and why music today is more like processed cheese than audible food. a must see film for any music lover. super cool, double freak ass bad. see all ten parts or better yet, rent the dvd. everyone from MC5, suicide, ny dolls, clash, television, patti smith, ramones, iggy, black flag, pistols, joy division, sonic youth, and so so on. not to be missed is henry rollins, he is hilarious in part nine or ten where he talks about the beastie boys and the rest. by dd
