origami at its finest
filippo perini sketches the lamborghini aventador
a rather cheeky video from marketing: selling you on the car that will save you from armageddon… or, god himself for that matter.
ok i’m not, in any way, a fan of obnoxious modern cars of the past 30 years. my love is for the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s cars of the le mans and monaco grand prix. i hate nearly all modern cars and the tacky people who drive them; but this car, love it or not, is a genius design that you can’t ignore. this car is so elegantly and effortlessly resolved, it can only be the work of a japanese origami master, but it isn’t. it’s actually the handy work of the italian filippo perini, and my hat is off to him. it’s good to see that italian’s can still do one thing right. the design will become a true classic, next to the small ferrari 246 GTS and the porsche 904. to me it was never about speed; as i always say, it’s all about style…but the aventador seems to have both. at 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph from its V12 engine, it’s not the fastest car today, nor is it the most expensive at almost 400,000 USD, but i wouldn’t mind having one if i could drive it away from the public’s eye. by dd
some more pix of the 904 carrera GTS. don’t forget just over a 100 were produced in 1964-65. a complete list of porsche 904 chassis number history can be found on the vacktek website. by dd

only a total of 106 mid engine 904’s were produced between 1964 and 65 with a price tag of just $7,245 (wish you had bought one!). even that low number was due to racing rules which required a minimum of 100 examples to be built in order to qualify for the GT class. the car was designed by ferdinand porsche’s grandson, ferdinand alexander porsche (also the designer of the 911). porsche achieved its fifth victory on 26 april 1964 with the production 904 at the targa florio. antonio pucci and colin davis snatched victory ahead of yet another 904. other wins include lemans, and 2nd place at the monte carlo rally. by dd
