it’s always tricky to accept that the lines we feel deep deep love for may not deliver when it comes to the apparently cool collab with also lovable h&m.; 1+1 should = 2 but hasn’t always in the past. we will have to wait until november 20th to sort out all of these mixed emotions with lanvin’s turn. in the meantime, enjoy the full collection video. by kl

adam green and the moldy peaches: who’s got the crack?
not that the topic of the song is that invigorating but the delivery is indeed.
thanx to CM, i’ve been listening to the moldy peaches the past few days, and must admit they have something special. don’t love the unnecessary graphic verbage but they top the charts for not giving a shit and that is in itself quite cool. the favorite track by far is “new york city’s like a graveyard” a good one to get a sense of the band. the first time i heard “who’s got the crack” was by pete doherty on an unreleased copy of the babyshambles album, and was surprised to find it was a cover as it’s so relevant to mr. doherty himself. by dd
Gil Scott-Heron’s New York is Killing Me : Directed by Chris Cunningham
some sharp comment about chris cunningham and his ability to mold your emotions with visuals, sound and time isn’t necessary for this post. it’s a haunting piece. and if you’ve ever lived in new york i know it will push a button somewhere. by kl
YSL manifesto with Daria Werbowy
must say i hate the usual bullshit brand videos. the typical, glorifying, amateur, behind-the-scenes of kate (at best) swinging her hair in the wind; but, inez and vinoode rocked this one. the locked down camera, dead simplicity, gorgeous silhouettes of stefano pilati, “invisible” track and daria in the best wig hairdo i’ve ever seen. drooooool. almost as hot as the fella kuti video in his trunks. by dd
fela kuti: authority stealing… catch am! catch am! tief tief tief
talking about music greats… saw a nice docu film on fela titles “fela kuti: music is the weapon” loved this one song which i did not have. it was released on felas own kalakuta label originally as no other label would touch it at the time. finally 20 years later, MCA released it in the year 2000. i just ordered the cd! here’s the clip from the docu and the song authority stealing. by dd

Halston SS2011 and don quixote
how did i get from the halston fashion show to don quixote… allow me to explain. i arrived at the halston show at the barbara gladstone gallery promptly at 7:30 as noted on my calendar, only to realize that the show was at 6:30 to 7:30 and not at 7:30. oh well, it wasn’t the first time… and besides, i don’t generally frequent the same locations as the horse lady… i’m sure i’ll see the lovely hard work tomorrow.
given i didn’t have tickets to marc, i headed to the chelsea hotel bar next door, the don quixote… while we hung out there for a few glasses of wine and appetizers, i found myself lost in the many irritable versions of don quixote statuettes that lined the walls and every available surface. from porcelain figurines to marble busts, this restaurant bar must have been frozen in time since the 70’s.
once home, i had to buy the book and re-read the masterpiece that both wells and terry gilliam failed to tackle. in my search, i came across these bits and pieces… they don’t come close to my admiration for a single white, scrawny, stick figure statue of a man i saw at the door tonight, but perhaps they’ll do the trick for you… happy reading. by uh

vanessa bruno – day for night
let us continue with the fashion short movies. in the past, we have posted vanessa bruno’s shorts, and the new one is just as beautiful. pure pleasure. we were talking about ryan mcginley a few posts earlier, but to me those shorts are the best cross over fashion/movies.
it’s from stephanie di giusto and it’s featuring valentine fillol cordier and once again lou doillon. sublime! by pp
