how to iron your own shirt: japanese style from garra

i have always ironed my own shirts. i find it to be better than yoga, its meditative and very rewarding. i like to think no place irons my shirts as well as i do. its an art and there’s always more to learn. here’s a video on garra, with a super stripped-down streamlined iron and flat japan style iron table. go to http://www.garra.jp click on “ironing skills” on the left hand list at the bottom. unfortunately the rest of the site is not so great. enjoy! by dd

“made like a gun, goes like a bullet”

my first decent couple of bucks is going to be directly invested in a royal enfield! i’m dreaming of it at night since my father told me once that the motorbike that “O’rence” is riding in lawrence of arabia is this very one.

i love everything about this brand from their history, to their logo, to the look to the end of the story… and what they still produce is still the same than it used to be non-like mini, fiat 500 and so on!

royal enfield was the brand of the enfield cycle company, a british engineering company. notable for producing motorcycles, it also produced bicycles, lawnmowers, stationary engines, and even rifle parts for the royal small arms factory in enfield lock. this legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto “made like a gun, goes like a bullet”. it also enabled the use of the brand name royal enfield from 1890. in 1955 enfield of india started assembling bullet motorcycles under licence from UK components, and by 1962 were manufacturing complete bikes. the original Redditch, worcestershire based company dissolved in 1971, but enfield of India, based in chennai, continued, and bought the rights to use the royal enfield name in 1995. royal enfield production continues, and now royal enfield is the oldest motorcycle company in the world still in production and bullet is the longest production run model.[1] by pp’

totally addicted to phoenix

these days, i’m kind of fed up with all music except the new phoenix that is turning almost non-stop here! it’s been a long time since i have heard anything this great. that said, the official video is not so cool, but a young lady took care of re-doing a much more relevant one for this crazy song! judge for yourself! by pp

POP magazine under dasha zhukova

the cover of the latest POP, launching tomorrow, with 13 year old blogger tavi on the cover

mind you tavi was featured in LOVE magazine already… oooh someone must be pissed

tomorrow is finally the launch-day of the long anticipated first issue of POP under new editor-in-chief dasha zhukova (ex c-model and ex-other half of gazillionaire roman abramovich). filling in katie grands shoes will not be an easy job.dasha zhukova is young and beautiful and has already started a fashion line, opened an art gallery, been appointed editor of pop, and gotten hooked up with a russian oligarch. no wonder people hate her.

a glowing new profile in interview magazine reminds us that there is going to be a lot of loving-her-or-hating-her going around when the first issue of pop with her as editor hits the stands. is she a fierce art and fashion visionary who is a role model for little russian girls? or, is she a horrible money-grubbing slattern who is using her rich boyfriend to finance her hobbies and ride on the coat tails of katie grand?

pop mag itself was originally co-founded in 2000 by ashley heath and editor godess katie grand. pop went trough a lot of drama when in 2008, katie decided to leave, bring with her the creative team to start LOVE magazine instead. well, tomorrow both magazines will be out so let the shelf-battle begin! by kv

berlin bunker, boros collection

Pierre bergé was saying about the collection he put together with the late YSL that it is itself a piece of art, pending on what you buy, what you don’t and what you do with it. so we can say that german collector christian Boros is definitely doing a piece of art out of his collection that include works buy Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Sarah Lucas, Tobias Rehberger, Anselm Reyle, and Santiago Sierra by putting everything on view in an old bunker in berlin. prior to its use as a art gallery, it was among other, a night club as only berlin can have, a bunker or a squat… publishing house hatje cantz is releasing a book documenting this pieces of art in a piece of art. by pp’

Mark Borthwick for Pop

we love mark, not only for his beautiful art and photography, but also for his warm hospitality, his cooking, his candles and his singing. this particular story makes me want to run for the hills and leave the city chaos behind… by kv
