bently hearts royal college of art
students in the vehicle design masters course at london’s royal college of art collaborated with bentley in a competition to design a new bentley coupe that explores aerodynamic innovations while maintaining the brand essence. called the aero-ace project, the winner will be invited to refine their design with bentley’s head of exterior design, raul pires, and join the brand’s design studio on a six month secondment. this seems to be an efficient fusion of want and need with new creatives joining the increasingly competitive workforce… enjoy some of the finalist concepts. by kl

boarding pass redesign
very interesting page from designer tyler thompson that “rubbed his eyes” on his delta ticket to get the basic infos related to his flight. mister tyler decided to give a try at redesigning the tickets and opened the exercice to other designer that also came with resolving designs. worth “checking” as i’m sure everybody with common sense have been bother by those pieces of non-design. here by pp
jean prouve bike
as the winter season seems to have no effect on the bike craze around us, here is the ultimate designer bike. Prouvé designed this bicycle during the war, in a time of great economic turmoil, with the hope to facilitate his employees’ journey between their homes and the ateliers. circa 1941 by pp
sea shepherd conservation society: adi gil kicks ice
adi was just recently rammed into by a whaling ship in the antarctic waters
and is missing 2/3 of its nose : (
the latest addition to the fleet of captain paul watson of the sea shepherds (the saviors of our oceans against illegal poachers and the like) is the 14-ton ‘adi gil’, formerly ‘earthrace’, a bio-diesel future forward kevlar reinforced boat with speeds of up to 40 knots. if that’s not cool enough it can also submerge underwater up to 23 feet!! the boat was designed for a successful round-the-world speed powerboat record attempt in 2008. it was acquired by sea shepherd last year and renamed after the hollywood businessman benefactor… who says saving the planet can’t has to be granola?some specs:
to join the sea shepherd, become a member, save the seas or just contribute as we have been doing for the past 2 years go to sea shepherd dot org and kick some ice. by dd

one laptop per child: version 3
we had promised our selves not to post any more sexy pix after being flagged by google but what the hell. our pals at fuse project are at it again. the OLPC version 3 has launched, and the new design features an all plastic durable tablet screen and like the original version it can be viewed in blasting Sahara sunlight and boosts new features like full-touch keyboard and back facing camera. now can someone please fix the damn operating system on this baby? by dd
brinell hard drives: German hard drives with a bit of french finish
the german manufacturer brinell is offering something more than the usual half-a-terabyte of storage in a grey plastic case. the 1.8in Purestorage XS series comes in options of macassar wood and leather, each material set against chrome trim. the drives are entirely USB powered and are available with a 160GB raw capacity. the larger, 2.5″ products measure 109 x 74 x 13mm, weigh 180g and contain a 500GB drive. a bit over priced (around £200) and a little too late perhaps given the cloud computing trend ahead but why not?by kt

joey roth Semi-audiophile ceramic speakers: for your ipod or computer

no word on the quality of sound since this has not hit the market as of yet, but just from its construction and material it will surely sound better than any consumer end product and it obviously looks great. once we audit this we will post another. in the meantime here’s a few specs from the designer/manufacturer joey roth:
“the ceramic speakers are made from porcelain, cork, and baltic birch. each material is minimally finished, left to add its natural beauty to the design. the included amplifier is made from stainless steel sheet metal, with a cast iron base and paulownia volume slider. aside from the electronic components, plastic is completely avoided in the system’s construction. typical speakers are designed to play even the most compressed or poorly recorded track. they gloss over the details that give high-resolution music its depth. the ceramic speakers’ custom-made drivers, porcelain and cork enclosures, and tripath amplifier reveal every nuance. they will show the difference between lossless and mp3 files, and will unlock vinyl’s richness.” available december 2009 priced under $500 by pp + dd
